Mad About Makeup

Pinned Image

That's a lot of makeup!

When I go out, I always want to look my best. Makeup is the fun part of getting ready, most of the time. It can also be maddening. I love to experiment with all the pretty colors, well, maybe not all at once, but you know what I mean. When I take my time I can do a decent job. Application is a challenge though, it's definitely not my strongest suit.

I have absolutely no coordination what-so-ever! I have a habit of waiting until the last minute and then I have to rush. If I don't give myself enough time to get ready, it's just going to be a big mess.

Doing ones own makeup is a challenge, I would say probably for most people. Some people are very talented at it. It takes skill and you do have to be somewhat coordinated, if you really want to do it properly.

Do you do the eye lift thing when you apply your mascara? I don't. Maybe I should start.

It's fascinating to watch people put makeup on, especially eye makeup and mascara. You know how they hold the wand with one arm going one way and the other going in another direction? I can't describe it exactly, but I'm sure you have seen it.

How do they do that? I've tried it several times and I've never been able to master that technique. It's like you have to be Shawn Johnson with the mascara wand. I usually poke myself in the eye and I always manage to smudge and get it all over my face.

These girls are having so much fun. I love the faces people make when they are putting on their faces.

Have you ever tried to follow those tutorials in the magazines? Don't you just love how they make it sound so easy to get the looks of your favorite starlets like Anne Hathaway or Rachel McAdams.

Piece of cake right?
I wish I could make purple eye shadow look that stunning on my eyes.

I don't have access to a professional makeup artist do you? You can do something similar and make it look spectacular if you practice, but it's not going to look exactly like that. It's certainly not as easy as they make it out to be. If you can do your eyes exactly like Rachel's in the picture above, I so envy you! Please tell us your secret!

When I have the time, I take the time, but it's not like I'm going to sit down at the mirror on Saturday 2 or 3 hours before I have to go and voila!

As much as I love doing my makeup, I really have to be in the mood. I have to be motivated if I want to attempt to do my makeup like Natalie Portman's and I strongly emphasize the word attempt.

This would have to take a lot of time and patience and I'm just not sure I have it.

I've heard celebrities talk about the hours it takes to do all of that stuff. I can't remember for the life of me, but I remember someone at some red carpet event saying it took 3 hours. It would be one thing if I had someone to do it for me, but just imagine doing your own makeup for 3 hours. Yikes!!!

Celebrities can be good muses, but I also like to look to real people for inspiration. Just try not to put so much pressure on yourself and be realistic about it.

If you mess up, you can wash it off and start over and you don't have to be a copycat. Experiment, add your own twist to it.

If you try to replicate a look, it's only going to drive you mad and you'll look like this...
